Trochu Arboretum Seasonal Staff

 PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary function of Employees in this classification will be to assist in the care, operation and maintenance of the Trochu and District Arboretum under the direction of the Arboretum Facility Manager. The secondary function of this classification will involve occasional assistance to the other departments of the Town’s operations.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties will include but not be restricted to the following:

  • Will be required to undertake manual labour e.g. planting, weeding, mulching, grooming and trimming of plants, trees and bushes etc.
  • May be required to maintain all pathways, green areas, picnic areas, flowerbeds, and ponds
  • May be required for the collection of gate receipts and fees.
  • May be required to operate small equipment such as lawnmowers, roto-tillers, weed whips, light tractors, single axle trucks, chainsaw and hedge trimmers etc.
  • May be required to assist with minor repairs of equipment, buildings and the irrigation system.
  • May be required to work under a Certified Provincial Pesticide Applicator to control the spread of weeds.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS:

To be effective in the performance of the position described above, an individual would require the following:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with the public, supervisors, volunteers and co-workers
  • Physically fit with the ability to withstand normal working conditions
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Driver’s abstract
  • Vulnerability Check
